Friday-Track Work Days

Post by Bryan W. Joplin » Fri Jul 22, 2011 10:34 pm

Isn't it great when a plan comes together. (even a loosely developed one) The end is in sight with a good turnout tonight and the coming together of 4 previous work days. Fridays volunteers included:

Joe Bauhs
The Young Family; Dave, Maylen, Andretta
Bill Choice
Paul Jones
Jim Garvin
Cole and Carter Calland
David and Cade McKee
Trey Kendrick

The day started with Joe and I loading a few tree trimmings into a dumpster. When the Young's arrived, they continued curb painting. (team Andretta has painted a lot of curbing) Cole, Carter, David and Cade took over curb painting and team Andretta transferred to landscaper cloth fastening under the barriers. Trey painted the wellhead barrier posts and then joined Cole installing new paper towel dispensers in the restrooms. David prepped the flag poles by drilling and adding hardware. Joe, Paul and Jim continued installing the front 3 rail fence.

The volunteers are proud to report the following:

1. New track Barrier system is complete
2. All curbing has been painted (red and white stripe)
3. New paper towel dispensers are now in all three restrooms
4. Wellhead barrier posts are now matching yellow
5. All tires have been moved to the back fence line
6. The foam barriers are installed at the front track fence line (end of straight)
7. 150 ft of 3 rail fence is installed
8. Significant progress in weed removal

We are on schedule to complete work on Saturday (start time is 9:30), but we need your help. Remaining projects include:
1. Install and paint barrier post at electrical panel
2. Install remaining 300 feet of fencing
3. Install four flag poles
4. Place temporary tire barrier at the new flag stand
5. Remove 3 trees on left side of track (optional)
6. Finish weed removal and general property cleanup

This work can be completed in a day, but the heat is very difficult. We need enough people to work in teams, so work can continue through the day with proper rest periods. Bring your weed eaters and work gloves.

A special thank you to the ladies, who have worked side by side with the men. I know Jan is tired at the end of the day and Maylen showed me her blisters from driving spikes through the landscaper clothe. I challenge any of our other teenagers to try and keep up with Andretta.

We hope to see many new faces at Saturdays work day. Work will begin at 9:30.
