What is the best way to go about getting a LO206 Kart? Can you use an old shifter roller and convert it, if so how hard is that to do? Is a specific 4 stroke chassis required? Are older chassis still competitive?
Lots of questions, any help is appreciated! Would like to get or build one of these karts for my wife.

Re: Making a LO206 Kart
There are many possible paths to take to build a LO206 race kart and all are good ones. It all depends on how involved you want to be in the build, or how much you want to spend. Competitiveness is relative, and not directly dependent on how much you spend (unless you are at the sharp end of the field, and want to have the freshest equipment).
Older (clean and straight) chassis can be competitive in the right hands. Tuning of the chassis is going to be critical, regardless of age.
- 1) - the easiest way to get started is to buy a fully built kart - there are usually more than a few offered for sale on the message board. condition and age will dictate the asking price. the risk you take is on the motor, as it is very difficult to gauge how much life is left in it.
2) - find a good clean used chassis, and build your own. This route may be a bit more expensive than option 1, as the cost of the parts to build the kart up may be more than buying a fully built one. That said, you can start off with a clean slate here. Shifter and TaG chassis have better components than 4-stroke-specific chassis, but tend to be a little bit heavier or stiffer. Most karts racing in our 206 class started life as a shifter or TaG.
3) buy a 4-stroke specific new chassis and build from there - this is the most expensive option of the 3, as the chassis alone may run north of $3000, depending on which one you buy, with a total build cost around (or higher) than $4000.

If you use a TaG or shifter chassis, do you have to weld on engine mounts or anything or are there bolt on parts you can buy to bolt up the engine, exhaust, etc.?
